In the early 1500s, European explorers transported Wild Turkeys from Mexico, where Native peoples had domesticated them centuries earlier. Turkeys quickly became trendy on European menus due to their big size and unique, rich taste. When English colonists returned to the Americas, settling on the Atlantic Coast, they brought domesticated turkeys with them. Today, these spectacular birds are an increasingly common sight year round, as flocks pace around woods and clearings like little dinosaurs.
