The mourning dove is a gentle creature that can survive in the toughest of environments. They are slender, light brown birds with a small head, long tail, and distinctive black spots on its neck. Their wings produce a sharp whistling noise during flight. Commonly seen foraging on the ground, they are a familiar sight in both urban and rural areas. Mourning Doves can eat roughly 12 to 20 percent of their body weight per day, or 71 calories on average. They frequently hangout on our fire escape, softly cooing away at our cat, Spring.
