Farmers developed this particular breed of chicken in the early 1900's near Decorah, Iowa. The Iowa Blue chicken breed was rescued from near extinction and has been bred and preserved through the efforts of a few breeders since the late 1980s. With its spunky attitude and proud sturt, the Iowa Blue is a homesteader chicken, known to be an excellent forager. This breed is fairly docile and not particularly flighty. They even have their very own fan club.
