Hayley (New Years Eve) Original

“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” – Rainer Maria Rilke

I created this during a New Year’s Eve life drawing marathon that lasted sixteen hours. I didn’t make it through the whole event, often taking breaks to regain my composure and energy. Of course, Hayley broke out the champagne flutes and a bottle of prosecco for the pose.

Artwork size: 9 x 12 in.

One of my favorite artist’s philosophies comes from the great Zen Master and artist, Hakuin Ekaku. He proposed that the inner character of the artist shining through gives a painting its power. With that in mind, my figurative paintings explore and encompass all of my interests in art: the exploration of mixed media, the design of shapes and forms by observing the figure, the joy of color and line, and Zen meditation.
