Whether gracefully standing at a river bend or flying around coastal shores with slow, deep wingbeats, the Great Blue Heron is majestic to witness and a common sight around North America. Great Blue Herons have beautiful blue-gray plumage, and often stand motionless as they keep a steadfast watch for prey. They may move slowly, but Great Blue Herons can strike at lightning speeds to catch a fish or snap up a frog. While in flight, look for this heron’s tucked-in neck and long legs trailing behind.
