Also known as the rainbow finch, the gouldian finch is a species endemic to northern Australia, inhabiting grassy open woodlands across northeastern Western Australia, the Top End of Northern Territory, and parts of northern Queensland. They come in a variety of brilliant color combinations: vivid green back, yellow belly, purple chest, blue nape, black throat, and very pale bill. These vibrant little birds eat mostly seeds, live in groups year-round, and only migrate when vegetation is scarce.
