Eastern Bluebirds occur across eastern North America and south as far as Nicaragua. A summer walk in grasslands or woods will turn up a few Eastern Bluebirds perched atop a nest box or on a wire, calling out in a short, wavering voice. Male Eastern Bluebirds are a brilliant royal blue on the back and head, and warm reddish orange-brown on the breast. Eastern bluebird pairs will return to their chosen nesting sites annually. They are the state bird of Missouri and New York.
