Dog Day Cicada (Tibicen canicularis) Art Print
If you haven’t seen a Dog Day Cicada, you’ve definitely heard one. Dog Day Cicadas are an annual cicada, meaning they emerge and breed on a yearly basis. They are known for their loud “Scream”, which males produce by way of extremely rapid muscle contractions of their abdomens - done for the purposes of attracting a mate. Soil burrowing larvae emerging from the soil will shed their exoskeleton, leaving behind a hollow brown shell that can often be found clung to trees.
