Northern Cardinal (Peeking) Greeting Card
Buy any five cards for $25; Build your own box of 8 for $40. Automatically applied at checkout!
This Northern Cardinal, named after the red garbs worn by Roman Catholic cardinals. It is the state bird for seven states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. The male Northern Cardinal has inspired people to open up a field guide more than any other bird, and is beloved by many. They’re a perfect combination of familiarity, conspicuousness, and style with their bright red plumage. Cardinals don’t migrate and they don’t molt into a dull plumage, so they stand out against snowy winter backyards. In summer, their sweet whistles are one of the first sounds of the morning.
In Cherokee folklore, the cardinal is the daughter of the sun and seeing one flying upward will bring you good fortune. Another common folklore, it is said that when one sees a cardinal, it is the spirit of a loved one who has passed visiting.
