The Palestine Sunbird (Cinnyris osea) was declared the national bird of Palestine in 2015 after the Israeli occupation authorities attempted to change its name in an effort to erase Palestinian identity. These tiny, iridescent gems often hover over flowers, using their downward-curving beak and long, brush-shaped tongue to obtain nectar from flowers. Source: eBird
