The Barred Owl’s hooting call, “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?” is typically heard in old forests. The barred owl, with soulful brown eyes and brown-and-white-striped plumage, can also pass completely unnoticed as it flies noiselessly through dense canopies. They may also be seen napping on a tree limb. Originally found in eastern North America, barred owls spread through the Pacific Northwest and southward into California during the twentieth century.
